Campfire

On September 25th and 26th, 2015, ten students from the Biology Club and 2 professors took the department’s camping equipment out to the US Forest Service’s Hune Covered Bridge Campground along the Little Muskingum River in the Wayne National Forest.  This campsite is about 10 miles upstream of the department’s Beiser Field Station just east of campus.  In addition to camping, activities included a night hike with UV flashlights to look for florescent millipedes, caterpillars and other creatures.  Dr. Lustofin is studying UV fluorescence in millipedes in particular, and Dr. McShaffrey is studying UV florescence in general, and we found a number of neat things.  Other activities included a day hike, searching for crayfish, salamanders and other fauna along the riverbank, and, of course, smores.
